A rod puppet is a type of puppet in which rods of wood or metal support the head inside the costume, while additional rods may support and control the arms (and more rarely, the legs) from outside the costume.

Usually the rods are worked from below or behind, although rod marionettes with a heavy rod fastened to the top of the head and thinner rods working the arm(s), are controlled from above.
